The ADRK (Allgemeiner
Deutscher Rottweiler Klub) was started in 1924.
It is the worldwide club of the Rottweiler.
The Rottweiler was officially recognized by AKC (the American Kennel
Club) in 1935.
The Rottweiler is known as one of the oldest herding breeds.
They go all the way back to the Roman Empire where they were used to herd
and guard cattle. They traveled with
the soldiers driving their herds of cattle into a small market town of
Rottweil. This
region was eventually an important cattle area and the descendants of the
Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the
cattle from robbers and wild animals. During
the middle ages, butchers tied their money sacks to the necks of the
Rottweilers for safe keeping. During
World War I, the
Rottweilers were used as police dogs and during World War II they were used
as messengers, ambulances and guard dogs.
They truly are an amazing dog no matter what job they are given.
